8th Grade Career Day isThursday February 6, 2014
We ask that our 8th grade students dress for success on Career Day. They will be meeting with professionals from our community all day and we want them to feel pride in their “professional attire.”
They will soon be shown a video on appropriate Career Day attire. As you are going through your closets or go out shopping for the holidays, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
What works: dress pants and slacks, collared shirts, blazer/jacket with tie, sweaters, suit, skirts and dresses of appropriate length, shoes that are comfortable to walk in.
What doesn’t work: spaghetti straps, tank tops, dresses or skirts that are SHORTER THAN 3 INCHES ABOVE THE KNEE IN FRONT AND BACK when your hands fall to your sides, saggy pants exposing under garments, t-shirts and hoodies, sneakers, flip flops, high heels that they cannot walk a mile in during the day.
We are proud of our 8th graders! Help them to make a good impression by ensuring that their clothes and shoes are comfortable and professional whether they stand, walk or sit.

To ensure accountability of the students, students may be signed out of school NO later than 3:30 PM. Anyone arriving after 3:30 will be asked to wait until general dismissal at 3:55.
If a student needs to leave early, please plan accordingly. As always, a parent or otherwise authorized adult, must come to the office to sign out a student. Please be prepared to show proper identification.

Extra special thanks to all volunteers, families who donated drinks, Ben E. Keith for donating snacks, the BMS administration, our VIPS coordinators, Ridge Point student photographers Jessica Salais, Megan Martin, and Melisa Williams Ibora.
Please watch www.bmspto.org and Longhorn Links for information on how to view and purchase social pictures.
Baines Middle School PTO sponsored bestselling author, Cinda Williams Chima. What an amazing event! Cinda Williams Chima wrote the fantasy series, Heir Chronicles and Seven Realms. She spoke to the 8th graders, Longhorn Book Club members and she met with the Poppin’Caps Writing Club to discuss the writing process, author to author.
Cinda Williams Chima’s autographed picture now graces our distinguished “Visiting Author’s” wall. She made an impression on many students, as they imagined themselves writing, just as she did when she was in middle school.
