In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, students and staff at Baines Middle School took part in their school’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Pink Out Day on October 24. The event invited students to support the cause by walking around the school track during all Physical Education and Health classes. Teachers and staff also joined in during their lunch and conference periods.
The school’s volleyball team also hosted its annual Lynn Armstrong Breast Cancer Awareness Staff Breakfast inform guests about the importance of breast cancer screening and prevention. Through “Change for the Cure” fundraising efforts of the school’s Wellness Club, Longhorns in Motion, and the school Pink Out Volleyball game, Baines students and staff helped raise more than $1,500 to support breast cancer research. Longhorns in Motion helps spread awareness of various health conditions, including diabetes, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis and other chronic and degenerative diseases.
“Longhorns in Motion would like to THANK our Baines community for your help and support in our Change for the Cure campaign. We collected a grand total of $1662 for this worthy cause and we could not have done this without the help of our students, faculty, staff and parents!” - Helen Mallios Amsler-(Wellness Ambassador – Longhorns in Motion)
