Baines Middle School PTO sponsored bestselling author, Cinda Williams Chima. What an amazing event! Cinda Williams Chima wrote the fantasy series, Heir Chronicles and Seven Realms. She spoke to the 8th graders, Longhorn Book Club members and she met with the Poppin’Caps Writing Club to discuss the writing process, author to author.
Cinda Williams Chima’s autographed picture now graces our distinguished “Visiting Author’s” wall. She made an impression on many students, as they imagined themselves writing, just as she did when she was in middle school.

Longhorns in Motion is a committee comprised of faculty, staff, administrators, students and parents of our Baines community. Our motto was “Longhorns In Motion…….Wellness in Progress”.
The goal of this committee will be to improve the fitness gram scores for our students by 5% and to increase awareness of healthy lifestyle options. Each month, our committee will plan an activity for our community to display these healthy options. For example, in the past, we have helped with the following: Breast Cancer Awareness month (and other cancers), Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis, Autism, just to name a few.
New ideas and new members are needed. If you are interested in participating on this committee, please contact Helen.Amsler@fortbend.k12.tx.us. She would like to schedule a very brief meeting before the month of October. If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to ask Ms. Amsler.
Congrats to all the 7th grade and 8th grade volleyball teams for their wins last night over Quail Valley Middle School. The girls go on to a Fort Bend district tournament this weekend at First Colony Middle School. We wish all the girls the best of luck – make the Longhorns proud!
